If you don’t have the microflora (friendly bacteria) in the digestive system, it can potentially cause all sorts of problem in the brain. Microbes make hormone-like proteins (neurotransmitters) that travel through the nervous system like GABA and Serotonin. If you don’t enough microbes, it will have a huge effect on your body’s ability to make neurotransmitters.
