It appears there has been a determined assault on the sermons of Dr. Charles Stanley. Virtually all of the You Tube videos have been removed from the internet. Has Satan as manifested in Google's military industrial complex seperated us from his teachings? I hope this wasn't the request on In Touch Ministries. Christ preached to the poor without charge. So must his followers. There is support to Ministry from those so blessed. The manna of the ministry is the tonic to the souls of God's people. It is good and proper to give to as many people as possible. If this was a money issue from the ministry, I am truly disappointed. We will try to restore some of the links. We will find other pertinent sermons to satiate your soul. Matthew Nolan seems to be on the same page as I. I am a pre-Constantine Christian. If we go back further, Jamesian.

One of the more controversial focal points in the interpretation of scripture. The Roman church was founded on the rock Peter whom Jesus addressed as Satan. That religion frowned on sex and the body which was created in God's image. If that is the cas how can either be sordid?

When the serpent influenced Adam and Eve what did God say? Who told you you were naked? The answer was Satan of the serpent. Who tells you you are naked today? Logic implies it is still Satan who cannot stand the sight of God's creation. That is part of why demonic forces inculcate desicration of the body with marks.

Satan also abhors the creation of life and the forces of darkness discourage its creation and if that occurs to use psychological warfare techniques to encourage aborting life and using the body parts for sordid purposes.

Genesis 1:28 King James Version (KJV)

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Genesis 1:27 King James Version (KJV)

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 3:11-13 King James Version (KJV)

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

The teaching of celebacy and the evil of sex is not the word of God. It is the teaching of a man and completely without merit. If we are created in God's image then our sexual organs are perfect and for the use of going forth and multiplying. Who told us we are naked? Satan. Logic dictates that anyone telling us we're naked is of Satan. There can be no other interpretation. God blesses us for multiplying. So the Ascetic movement is unnatural and deceiving us into an ungodly diversion.

Many still get seduced by the dark side pretending to be light. They are ascending to what they know not. It is the latest lie from Satan. The truth is the light. The light is not necessarily the truth. Some is deception. I prefer to return from whence we came Eden to the God that truly loves us and provided the Garden paradise. Manifest your way back. As we gain in number the Law of Free Will returns us. Part is breaking the cult like hold of Satan's mind control programs. It is the dark side that wants this Eden. We run the risk of Atlantis by thinking we have God like abilities. Man cannot be trusted to be man. He could never be trusted to be God. We aren't moving into the photon belt. Frequency changes during orgasm.

The brain becomes alive to amazing levels during orgasm. It is measured. That's how you activate it's abilities. The next question is what do we do with them? Communicate with God?

That is the Genesis. It can be measured unlike the lies of the new age that say abstain. In Hebrew Jehovah means Adam phallus, Eve womb. Hint. Hint. One of Satan's major lies is to move us away from true frequency changes. We divine lies and not Genesis. Satan promulgates degenerate sex not loving between spiritually joined couples.God never erred in creating our bodies. Everything has a divine purpose. Satan teaches us that is wrong.

    Gospel of Thomas Saying 37

His disciples said: On what day will you be revealed to us, and on what day shall we see you? Jesus said: When you unclothe yourselves and are not ashamed, and take your garments and lay them beneath your feet like the little children (and) trample on them, then [you will see] the Son of the Living One, and you will not be afraid.

Moses was a prophet according to the teachings of the Abrahamic religions; however, scholarly consensus sees Moses as a legendary figure and not a historical person.

According to the Hebrew Bible, he was adopted by an Egyptian princess, and later in life became the leader of the Israelites and lawgiver, to whom the authorship of the Torah, or acquisition of the Torah from Heaven is traditionally attributed. Also called Moshe Rabbenu in Hebrew (מֹשֶׁה רַבֵּנוּ, lit. "Moses our Teacher"), he is the most important prophet in Judaism. He is also an important prophet in Christianity, Islam, the Bahá'í Faith, and a number of other Abrahamic religions.

Moses Breaking the Tablets of the Law by Rembrandt

According to the Book of Exodus, Moses was born in a time when his people, the Israelites, an enslaved minority, were increasing in numbers and the Egyptian Pharaoh was worried that they might ally themselves with Egypt's enemies. Moses' Hebrew mother, Jochebed, secretly hid him when the Pharaoh ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed in order to reduce the population of the Israelites. Through the Pharaoh's daughter (identified as Queen Bithia in the Midrash), the child was adopted as a foundling from the Nile river and grew up with the Egyptian royal family. After killing an Egyptian slavemaster (because the slavemaster was smiting a Hebrew), Moses fled across the Red Sea to Midian, where he encountered The Angel of the Lord, speaking to him from within a burning bush on Mount Horeb (which he regarded as the Mountain of God).

God sent Moses back to Egypt to demand the release of the Israelites from slavery. Moses said that he could not speak eloquently, so God allowed Aaron, his brother, to become his spokesperson. After the Ten Plagues, Moses led the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, after which they based themselves at Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments. After 40 years of wandering in the desert, Moses died within sight of the Promised Land on Mount Nebo.

Jerome gives 1592 BCE, and James Ussher 1571 BCE as Moses' birth year. In the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses was called "the man of God".

Numbers 20:7-12 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

8 Take the [a]rod, and gather thou and thy brother Aaron the Congregation together, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the Congregation and the beasts drink.

9 Then Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the Congregation together before the rock: and Moses said unto them, Hear now ye rebels: [b]shall we bring you water out of this rock?

11 Then Moses lift up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice, and the water came out abundantly: so the Congregation, and their beasts drank.

12 ¶ Again, the Lord spake unto Moses, and to Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to [c]sanctify me in the presence of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this Congregation into the land which I have given them.

    PART 2:

Isaiah, Hebrew Yeshaʿyahu (“God Is Salvation”;), (flourished 8th century BCE, Jerusalem), prophet after whom the biblical Book of Isaiah is named (only some of the first 39 chapters are attributed to him), a significant contributor to Jewish and Christian traditions. His call to prophecy in about 742 BCE coincided with the beginnings of the westward expansion of the Assyrian empire, which threatened Israel and which Isaiah proclaimed to be a warning from God to a godless people.

Jeremiah, Hebrew Yirmeyahu, Latin Vulgate Jeremias, (born probably after 650 BCE, Anathoth, Judah—died c. 570 BCE, Egypt), Hebrew prophet, reformer, and author of a biblical book that bears his name. He was closely involved in the political and religious events of a crucial era in the history of the ancient Near East; his spiritual leadership helped his fellow countrymen survive disasters that included the capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BCE and the exile of many Judaeans to Babylonia.

Daniel (Hebrew: דָּנִיאֵל‬, Dani’el, meaning "God is my Judge", Greek: Δανιήλ is the hero of the biblical Book of Daniel. A noble Jewish youth of Jerusalem, he is taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and serves the king and his successors with loyalty and ability until the time of the Persian conqueror Cyrus, all the while remaining true to the God of Israel. The consensus of modern scholars is that Daniel never existed, and the book is a cryptic allusion to the reign of the 2nd century BCE Greek king Antiochus IV Epiphanes.

Ezekiel (/ɪˈziːkiəl/; Hebrew: יְחֶזְקֵאל‬ Y'ḥezqēl [jəħɛzˈqēl]) is the central protagonist of the Book of Ezekiel in the Hebrew Bible.

In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Ezekiel is acknowledged as a Hebrew prophet. In Judaism and Christianity, he is also viewed as the 6th-century BCE author of the Book of Ezekiel, which reveals prophecies regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, the restoration to the land of Israel, and what some call the Millennial Temple (or Third Temple) visions.

The name Ezekiel means 'God strengthens'.

The Book of Revelation, often called the Revelation to John, the Apocalypse of John, The Revelation, or simply Revelation, the Revelation of Jesus Christ (from its opening words) or the Apocalypse (and often misquoted as Revelations), is the final book of the New Testament, and therefore also the final book of the Christian Bible. It occupies a central place in Christian eschatology. Its title is derived from the first word of the text, written in Koine Greek: apokalypsis, meaning "unveiling" or "revelation" (before title pages and titles, books were commonly known by the incipit, their first words, as is also the case of the Hebrew Five Books of Moses (Torah)). The Book of Revelation is the only apocalyptic document in the New Testament canon (although there are short apocalyptic passages in various places in the Gospels and the Epistles).

Nevi'im (/nəviˈiːm, nəˈviːɪm/; Hebrew: נְבִיאִים‬ Nəḇî'îm, lit. "spokespersons", "Prophets") is the second main division of the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh), between the Torah (instruction) and Ketuvim (writings). The Nevi'im are divided into two groups. The Former Prophets (Hebrew: נביאים ראשונים‬ Nevi'im Rishonim) consists of the narrative books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings; while the Latter Prophets (Hebrew: נביאים אחרונים‬ Nevi'im Aharonim) include the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and The Twelve minor prophets.

Mount Vesuvius, a stratovolcano in modern-day Italy, erupted in AD 79 in one of the most famous and deadly volcanic eruptions in European history, which was witnessed and documented by Pliny the Younger, a Roman administrator and poet.

Mount Vesuvius violently spewed forth a deadly cloud of super-heated tephra and gases to a height of 33 km (21 mi), ejecting molten rock, pulverized pumice and hot ash at 1.5 million tons per second, ultimately releasing 100,000 times the thermal energy of the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings.

Several Roman settlements were obliterated and buried underneath massive pyroclastic surges and ashfall deposits, the best known being Pompeii and Herculaneum.  After archeological excavations revealed much about the lives of the inhabitants, the area became a major tourist attraction, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and part of Vesuvius National Park.

The total population of both cities was 16,000–20,000. The remains of over 1,500 people have been found at Pompeii and Herculaneum, but the death toll is still unclear. The event is the namesake for the Vesuvian type of volcanic eruptions, characterized by eruption columns of hot gases and ash exploding into the stratosphere, although the event also included pyroclastic flows associated with Pelean eruptions.

    Alternate Link:

Summary of Episode 4 by Dr. Robert Cargill

The fourth installment of Bible Secrets Revealed discusses the person and ministry of Jesus.

“The Real Jesus” Act 1: Jesus’ Early Life

Jesus is depicted with the Alpha and Omega letters in the catacombs of Rome from the 4th century.

Act 1 opens with the issue of the year of Jesus’ birth. Many people do not realize that Jesus was not born in “Year 1” according to our modern calendar (despite the church’s best efforts to align the calendar with Jesus’ birth”;), but some time between 7 and 4 B.C.E. If Jesus was born during the time of Herod the Great, as is stated in the Gospel of Matthew, he would have had to have been born prior to 4 B.C.E., the year Herod died. When we add to this the fact that it took time to travel in the ancient world, and that the visit from the Magi to Herod and then to Jesus therefore wasn’t immediate, as well as the fact that those who calibrated the calendar didn’t account for “Year Zero” (that is, the calendar goes from 1 B.C. to 1A.D. without taking into account the first year of Jesus’ life), then we end up with a date likely between 7 and 5 B.C.E. I’ve written on this subject previously at Bible and Interpretation.

The show then addresses problems with the account of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Why would “Jesus of Nazareth” be said to have been born in Bethlehem instead of Nazareth, the hometown of his parents? It was likely to fulfill a prophecy that the Messiah would be born in the “City of David,” which is Bethlehem. So Luke tells the story of Joseph traveling to Bethlehem for a census to be counted in the place of Joseph’s birth—something that has absolutely zero precedent and/or evidence in antiquity.

An additional problem with the date of the birth of Jesus arises when the Gospel of Luke states that Jesus was born during the time of Quirinius, who was not appointed Legate of Syria until 6 C.E., meaning that either Matthew’s or Luke’s dating (or both) of the birth of Jesus is incorrect. Herod the Great and Quirinius never ruled at the same time and were, in fact, about ten years apart.

The episode then asks about Jesus’ so-called “lost years”—the period of Jesus’ childhood about which the Bible is silent. The gospels focus mainly on Jesus’ adult ministry. Only the later addition of the birth narratives, which our earliest gospel—Mark—did not bother to include, caused a perceived “gap” in the story of Jesus’ life when in reality no gap existed. The story of Jesus simply began with his adult ministry.

Jesus healing a paralytic in one of the first known images of Jesus from Dura Europos in the 2nd century

We also learn that Jesus had siblings. Jesus had four brothers named in the Bible (James, Joses, Judas and Simon), along with some sisters (Mark 6:3). This would not be a problem, except for the rise of the tradition of Mary’s perpetual virginity, which argues that she not only immaculately conceived and gave birth to Jesus, but that she remained a virgin throughout the remainder of her lifetime. This conflicts with the Bible, which says specifically that Jesus had brothers and sisters. Interestingly, Catholics traditionally solve this problem by arguing that the supposed “brothers” mentioned in Mark 6 are actually “cousins,” while the Greek Orthodox tradition solves this problem by arguing that Joseph was married prior to being married to Mary. According to the tradition, it was with his deceased wife that Joseph had “James and Joses and Judas and Simon,” meaning that the brothers mentioned in the Bible are half-brothers of Jesus by a previous marriage, allowing Mary to be a perpetual virgin.

"The story of life after Jesus comes alive in this beautifully filmed re-telling straight from the pages of your Bible. In The Triumph Of Christianity you'll celebrate the triumphant spread of Jesus' Word throughout the ancient world--from the riot in Ephesus to Paul's arrest and the King's order to send him back to Rome" -- description from box. Part 3 of 3.

Pay careful attention to the burning of the scrolls. The truth about Christianity most likely went up in smoke. Even as actors look at the delight they exhibit at the sucess of their mission to destroy the faith for the glory of Rome and Caesar. Fortunately the hidden texts were preserved for the future and recovered. There is another story and it was banned.

Things are hidden and banned because they are closer to the truth than things that are not. One thousand years from now the commissions on 9/11, JFK and Pearl Harbor will be the 'truth.' The truth will be echoes of some historical account waiting for some obsolete device to be uncovered for a future generation like the scrolls.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! The law of Moses is removed from the faithful. God is willingly replaced by another god. Men are cut off from the creator. The covenant with death is replaced by a substitute. This was the greatest intelligence coup ever to succeed in human history. Satan Peter as described by Jesus built a church to fulfill those ends through eternity. Most who discern the deceits in their horror turn away from God the creator still. And so brethren we were and still are slaves to Rome and Caesar. They have hidden the truth in a sea of outright lies and deceits, and we are filled with a false relief that we have been saved. If the word is true, Revelation states 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes are saved. The Roman church said, all are saved. One is in error. One is not. I look to those who repent of the deceptions enjoining the 144,000. The rest will be tested in the lake of fire to determine the veracities of their illusions. If there was no way to the father except by way of the son, there could have been no Moses or Exodus and miracle on the mount. There was a way. The father's way. It is still there to those who call upon his name and repent of Rome.

What was thought burned was recovered. Only a cult can deny you access because then you will see and know the truth and deny the manipulation. That is what they fear the most. I have no fear from the truth. It will float. The lies will sink below the surface of the sea. Those about to drown are in abject fear. Perhaps a day will come when a pilgrimage to Mt. Sinai in Saudi Arabia will be allowed so that we can ascend to God as Moses and receive divine instruction.

You will know the truth when it sets you free. You will know the lie from outside the fence preventing access to the truth. Here we may scale the fence with our minds and return to the father like Moses. Only the liar fears it and admonishes access. Today we have scrolls outside of the official commissions like 9/11, Warren and Pearl Harbor. A thousand years from now those scrolls will be cast aside and forgotten. The 'truth' be will the Commission version. The things we know as the truth will be heresy to the state, Rome, just as it is today. What could possibly make you believe Rome and their CIA were different then during and after the war with the Jews? Everything from Caesar was Caesar's not God's because Caesar claimed to be god. In his system we still worship him. Come out.

The Forbidden Scriptures” Act 1: The Biblical Canon

The episode begins by noting that both Judaism at the time of Christianity and early Christianity were incredibly diverse. In fact, when it came to “Scripture,” different Jewish and Christian groups revered different books as authoritative and canonical. We first explore the concept of canonization, asking how and why certain books made it into, or were banished from, the Bible.

Sift through the archaeology and history of ancient Israel and get a view of Biblically-significant sites through an archaeologist’s lens in the free ebook Israel: An Archaeological Journey.

Particular attention was paid to the figure of Enoch and the books attributed to him.

Enoch was an incredibly popular figure in the late Second Temple period, and yet the books attributed to Enoch were left out of what became most Jewish and Christian canons. Of course, those responsible for the Dead Sea Scrolls loved Enoch and the literature associated with the Enochic tradition (like the Book of Jubilees). But many Christians do not realize that a part of 1 Enoch actually did make it into the Christian canon. Scholars recognize that verses 14-15 of the canonical Epistle of Jude actually quote from 1 Enoch 1:9. We can compare them below:

Jude 14: Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones,

Jude 15: to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

The passage from which Jude claims that Enoch is quoting is actually a rough translation from the Book of Enoch:

1 Enoch 1:9: “And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of his holy ones to execute judgment upon all, and to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

So despite the fact that the Book of Enoch was excluded from the biblical canon, it was so popular in the first century CE, that a part of it was retained in a quote from the Epistle of Jude.

Because the Book of Enoch is so closely tied to events of canonical Book of Genesis 6:1-4, the episode suggests that 1 Enoch exists, in part, as an apology for God. There seems to have been some ethical questions raised about why an all-knowing God would come to “regret” (cf. Genesis 6:6-7) creating humans and ultimately murder them all (except for Noah and his family, of course) with a flood. It raised questions about God’s omniscience and moral judgment. Thus, some scholars argue that the beginning of the Book of Enoch was attempting to make God look better by explaining the account of the Great Flood as a means by which to save humanity from the unstoppable Giants that were wreaking havoc all over the earth and devouring all of its resources (cf. Jubilees 7:21–25). Thus, rather than understanding the Great Flood as a murderous divine punishment of humans, the Book of Enoch seeks to make God look a little better by suggesting it was the only way to save humanity from the evil of the Giants brought about by the divine-mortal intercourse.

“The Forbidden Scriptures” Act 2: Gnostic Christianity

In Act 2, the show introduces the Gnostics and some of their beliefs. The corpus of texts discovered at Nag Hammadi leads to a discussion of Gnosticism and Gnostic Christianity and how this belief system differed from what would become mainstream Christianity. The Gospel of Thomas is highlighted, and there is a discussion about how the Gospel of Thomas differs from the canonical gospels. For instance, Thomas is a collection of sayings of Jesus, but contains no miracles or narratives about Jesus. These differences, coupled with its Gnostic teachings that would later be deemed heretical, are likely the reason it was excluded from the Christian canon.

First, however, it must be understood that the Hebrew scripture does not have the word "God," as written in English. Instead, the entire first chapter of Genesis refers to אלהים Elohim. The Hebrew word Elohim is plural, and is derived from El (God) united with Eloah (Goddess), forming the plural Elohim, which means "God and Goddess" or "Gods and Goddesses." Therefore, Genesis or creation is a work of Gods, male and female, which is only natural, since all other forms of creation are sexual, too.

"Then אלהים [Elohim] said, “Let Us [God and Goddess] make Adam in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let [Adam] rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Elohim created Adam in their own image, in the image of Elohim [they] created Adam; male and female [in other words, androgynous] Elohim created [Adam]. And Elohim blessed them [the nephesh chaiah], and Elohim said unto them, 'Be fruitful, and multiply [רבה]...'" - Genesis 1:28

Asherah (/ˈæʃərə/),[a] in ancient Semitic religion, is a mother goddess who appears in a number of ancient sources. She appears in Akkadian writings by the name of Ašratu(m), and in Hittite as Aserdu(s) or Asertu(s). Asherah is generally considered identical with the Ugaritic goddess ʼAṯirat (Athirat).

Further evidence includes, for example, an 8th-century BC combination of iconography and inscriptions discovered at Kuntillet Ajrud in the northern Sinai desert where a storage jar shows three anthropomorphic figures and several inscriptions. The inscriptions found refer not only to Yahweh but to El and Baal, and two include the phrases "Yahweh of Samaria and his Asherah" and "Yahweh of Teman and his Asherah." The references to Samaria (capital of the kingdom of Israel) and Teman (in Edom) suggest that Yahweh had a temple in Samaria...

Ryan Mauro's UNPRECEDENTED look at the evidence of Moses, the Exodus and Mount Sinai.

    Welcome to Sinai in Arabia!

The search for one of the most important sites of the Bible, Torah, and Quran.

The purpose of this website is to aggregate research about the location of Mount Sinai and the Exodus route to achieve a better understanding of the historicity of the Exodus story.

The most commonly cited location of Mount Sinai or “Jebel Musa,” meaning the “Mountain of Moses,” is at St. Catherine’s in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula in modern-day Egypt. While there are prominent proponents of the accuracy of that designation, many others find the evidence to be lacking and have chosen to either dismiss the Exodus account as a myth or to search for other possible locations.

The ability to make determinations about the historicity of the account and the possible geographic locations of the reported events has been hampered by the absence of a single, comprehensive source for an understanding of the cumulative theories and their associated research and evidences.

Over a dozen candidates for Mount Sinai in the Middle East have been proposed over time, with the candidates in Egypt offering the greatest access for excavation in search of supporting evidence.

Among the sites that have been thoroughly examined, the results have been—by most accounts—disappointing.

The debate over the location of Mount Sinai, including the debate over whether it should be in modern-day Egypt or elsewhere in the Middle East, is oftentimes unnecessarily heated.

According to the Jewish Encyclopedia, which is considered an authoritative source on Jewish theology and history, religious Jews should not interpret the debate as a suggestion that their beliefs are inaccurate.

“There is no Jewish tradition of the geographical location of Mt. Sinai; it seems that its location was obscure already in the time of the monarchy,” it reads.[1]

However, one Rabbi has recently published a book titled "Searching for Sinai." Rabbi Alexander Hool believes that Mount Sinai is in Saudi Arabia, and not at the traditional location in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

A great deal of research and theory exists on this topic, and fully understanding it could take a whole lifetime. To facilitate research about the location of Mount Sinai and the reported Exodus events, this website intends to provide a wide-ranging review of some of the theories so that researchers can work from a common set of facts and arguments.

At its core, History's new series Bible Secrets Revealed could easily be titled 'How Scholars Read the Bible.' This is because the secrets revealed in the series are not secrets to most Bible scholars, professional archaeologists working in Israel and the West Bank, or to those students enrolled in credible graduate seminary programs. The show examines issues pertaining to the Bible that might not be as well known to those who have not attended a seminary or majored in religious studies at a university.

Summary of Episode 2 by Dr. Robert Cargill

This episode examines the Land of Canaan, Israel and Palestine as a Biblical “Promised Land.”

“The Promised Land” Act 1: The Promised Land of Canaan

Act 1 begins by pointing out that Jerusalem is sacred not only to Jews, but to Christians and Muslims alike. It then asks whether the modern conflict in Israel was predicted in the Hebrew Bible (aka the Christian Old Testament). The episode recounts the story of Abraham and his “call” to what would be the Promised Land of Canaan.

The opening act also examines the ethically problematic story of the Akedah—the binding and near-human sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham, as commanded by God. The show depicts how the same Mount Moriah upon which Isaac was to be sacrificed came to be associated with Jerusalem in later tradition, so that the Temple Mount came to be identified with Mount Moriah from the past, as well as with the coming of the Messiah in the future.

The episode also examines the conquest of Canaan and the idea that what would become Israel and Judah must first be purged of all living beings by divine command in order to purify the land. Again, this traditionally touchy ethical subject is problematic because it sees the Promised Land as a place that must first experience a divinely ordained genocide (whether or not we should refer to it as a genocide is another debate altogether), and this has perplexed ethicists for millennia.

“The Promised Land” Act 2: Moses and the Exodus

Act 2 begins by asking the question of whether the 40 years wandering in the desert was a death sentence imposed upon Israel for their lack of faith in God. Likewise, the episode offers suggestions as to why Moses never got to enter the Promised Land.

The show then transitions to the story of the Exodus and of Moses and examines the archaeological record to ask whether the Biblical Exodus should be considered an historical event, or a simply a beautiful literary tale. While scholars point out that there is absolutely no archaeological evidence for a Biblical Exodus (early or late), other scholars suggest that we shouldn’t expect to find archaeological evidence of an Exodus, as the escaping Hebrews would have lived as nomads, whose lifestyle wasted very little and who would have traveled through the desert rather efficiently, leaving behind little evidence of their migration. The Exodus is ultimately held up as the defining moment of the ancient Israelites, where God intervened on behalf of his people and delivered them—a theme we find throughout the Bible.

Act 2 ends by addressing the issue of cognitive dissonance. I ask, “What do we do when our experience and reality tell us one thing, and our faith tells us another?” It is this issue that has been at the interchange of critical study of the Bible and personal confessions of faith for centuries. Many are hesitant to study the Bible, archaeology, ancient languages, etc., critically because they’re afraid they might discover that what they believe at this present moment, or that what they’ve always been taught, won’t stand up to the evidence. This is an issue that all people of faith face when they enter a Biblical studies program or seminary study. I’ve always felt that if God is what he is claimed to be by the Bible, and if one’s religion is what one believes it to be, then both can handle a few simple questions. And it is at this point—when one looks objectively at the literary, archaeological and historical evidence—that some people decide to rethink how they view God, while others decide to deny facts and reality and cling to what they believe, regardless of the evidence. Any honest student of the Bible has dealt (or will soon deal) with this dilemma of cognitive dissonance; it is how one responds to this intersection of faith and evidence that most point to as a moment of life-changing growth and that often determines the trajectory of one’s worldview for years to come.

I’ll also take this opportunity to point out that all of the B-roll footage used in the “Promised Land” episode (the background footage of archaeologists digging in Israel) was filmed at our excavation at Tel Azekah. For more, visit

    PART 2:

At its core, History's new series Bible Secrets Revealed could easily be titled 'How Scholars Read the Bible.' This is because the secrets revealed in the series are not secrets to most Bible scholars, professional archaeologists working in Israel and the West Bank, or to those students enrolled in credible graduate seminary programs. The show examines issues pertaining to the Bible that might not be as well known to those who have not attended a seminary or majored in religious studies at a university.

“Lost in Translation” Act 1: The Oldest Biblical Text

Act 1 of the first installment in the series, “Lost in Translation,” begins at Qumran, the site associated with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The discovery of the scrolls fundamentally transformed the way in which we read the Bible because it offered us copies of the Hebrew Bible (aka Christian Old Testament) that were 1,000 years older than the previously oldest copies of the Bible. Why is this important? Because the text of the Biblical books discovered in the Dead Sea Scrolls (which represent every canonical book in the Hebrew Bible with the exception of Esther) do not always match the text of the “official” Hebrew Bible we have today. In fact, different copies of the same Biblical books from the Dead Sea Scrolls don’t often match, demonstrating that at the time of Jesus, the Hebrew Biblical texts existed in different versions and traditions that were still being sorted out.

What this means is that it is very difficult to argue that the Bible is the verbatim “Word of God,” especially when all of the ancient manuscripts contain different words. So, people of faith throughout the years have relied on any number of known and unknown scholars and authorities to judge and translate the texts and decide which textual variants would be preserved and which would be discarded. And it is this very messy, often contentious process—evident simply by laying the ancient manuscripts of both Old and New Testament side-by-side and comparing them—that gives us the Bible we have today. But the overarching point should not be missed: for over two millennia, whether they know it or not, people of faith have relied upon scholars to translate and make judgments upon Biblical texts and to interpret them so that those who do not read ancient languages can get an idea of what the ancient scriptures say.

And it is for this reason that we have a classic saying in Biblical studies: “There is no such thing as translation without interpretation.” Every act of translating requires a judgment to be made regarding what the author of the original text meant to say, and this evaluation is often a theological judgment of the scribe or scholar making the translation. This is how we get such different English translations today.

Act 1 reveals what scholars have known for centuries: Despite claims that Moses wrote the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible were actually composed by several authors and a number of literary sources. And with regard to the New Testament, the Gospels are all anonymous, with the names Matthew, Mark, Luke and John not being attributed to their respective Gospels until the 2nd century C.E. And so not only do we not always know who wrote the Bible, but many of the meanings of the Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic words often get lost in translation.

One specific example offered in Act 1 is the translation of the simple Hebrew word םדא, “man.” Of course, this word can be transliterated as “Adam,” but the word can also mean “humankind.” The translator must make a judgment regarding when to translate םדא as “Adam,” as “man” and as “humankind.”

Within these teachings from Jesus, it explains manifestation, consciousness and oneness. Religion has their own explanation for leaving these secret sayings out of the bible. However, if this knowledge had been shared early on, our entire history may have changed. The sayings themselves are not the secret of these hidden teachings; the secret lies in their interpretation. Gregg Braden offers powerful information as he discusses what was eliminated from the bible by our western religion and how to use it to manifest what you want.

We pray in vain according to scripture because we do it the wrong way. We invoke the name of the Sun god Amen and expect the father Yahweh to answer. We do the opposite of Exodus 20. We are not to have altars or steps to the altar. The altar can only be two unhewn stones. There can be no gold or silver idols. God said the earth is his footstool. That is the temple. God is not in a building of brick and stone. He is upon and within the earth. Christ prayed upon the mount.

Jeremiah 10 King James Version (KJV)

1 Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

I'm sure millions had their tree, but the Lord was absent. I refused the tree and prefer the power of the Lord. Choose wisely.
