The Avengers is a spy-fi British television series created in 1961. The Avengers initially focused on Dr. David Keel (Ian Hendry) and his assistant John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Hendry left after the first series and Steed became the main character, partnered with a succession of assistants. Steed's most famous assistants were intelligent, stylish and assertive women: Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), and later Tara King (Linda Thorson). Later episodes increasingly incorporated elements of science fiction and fantasy, parody and British eccentricity. The Avengers ran from 1961 until 1969, screening as one-hour episodes its entire run.

Man in the Mirror is the twenty-second episode of the second series of the 1960s cult British spy-fi television series The Avengers, starring Patrick Macnee and Julie Stevens. It originally aired on ABC on 24 February 1963. The episode was directed by Kim Mills and written by Geoffrey Orme and Anthony Terpiloff.

    Plot

A cipher expert commits suicide at an amusement park, however Venus Smith discovers that she has taken a photograph of the man several days later, apparently very much alive. Steed investigates the mystery.

  • Kate Bush - Experiment IV

"Experiment IV" is a song by the English singer Kate Bush. It was released as a single on 27 October 1986, in order to promote Bush's greatest hits album The Whole Story. The single peaked at 23 in the UK Singles Chart, simultaneously with "Don't Give Up", Bush's duet with Peter Gabriel, which reached number 9.

    Overview

The song tells a story about a secret military plan to create a sound that is horrific enough to kill people. The ending of the story is unclear, but in the music video nearly every person working on the project is killed by the horrific sound, which is personified by Bush herself as she changed from an angelic woman into a banshee (a horrifying screaming apparition of Irish lore).

The song features Nigel Kennedy on violin, who at one point replicates the screeching violins from Bernard Herrmann's famous scoring of the shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho.

The B-sides of both the 7" and 12" singles included a re-working of "Wuthering Heights", the single which catapulted her to stardom in 1978. On the 12" single, the 1980 song "December Will Be Magic Again" was included as an additional B-side.

An extended version of "Experiment IV" appeared on the 12" vinyl release of the single. Both versions of the song were included on the second CD, second cassette or second LP of rarities on the box set This Woman's Work, released in 1990.

We were working secretly for the military

Our experiment in sound was nearly ready to begin

We only know in theory what we are doing

Music made for pleasure, music made to thrill

It was music we were making here until

They told us all they wanted

Was a sound that could kill someone from a distance

So we go ahead and the meters are over in the red

It's a mistake in the making

From the painful cries of mothers to a terrifying scream

We recorded it and put it into our machine

They told us all they wanted

Was a sound that could kill someone from a distance

So we go ahead and the meters are over in the red

It's a mistake in the making

It could feel like falling in love

    It could feel so bad

    It could feel so good

It could sing you to sleep

But that dream is your enemy

We won't be there to be blamed

We won't be there to snitch

I just pray that someone there can hit the switch

They told us all they wanted

Was a sound that could kill someone from a distance

So we go ahead and the meters are over in the red

It's a mistake in the making

And the public are warned to stay off

This was a popular predictive programming television show for family viewing. We reinforce the illusion there is space, that we can actually get there. The alien propagnda implies if they can get in, we can get out. However, that is not possible. There is a protective screen defending and insulating us. It is the firmament of the Bible. So we are lost, but only believing in space and the illusions thereof. I believe NASA was a cover for the true invaders the silicon life from Roswell said to be time travelers. They are taking over the Earth. The good AI robot is part of the brainwashing process.

Lost in Space is an American science fiction television series created and produced by Irwin Allen, filmed by 20th Century Fox Television, and broadcast on CBS. The show ran for three seasons, with 83 episodes airing between September 15, 1965, and March 6, 1968. The first television season was filmed in black and white, but the remainders were filmed in color. In 1998, a Lost in Space movie, based on the television series, was released.

Though the original television series concept centered on the Robinson family, many later story lines focused primarily on Dr. Zachary Smith, played by Jonathan Harris. Originally written as an utterly evil but extremely incompetent would-be saboteur, Smith gradually becomes the troublesome, self-centered, incompetent foil who provides the comic relief for the show and causes most of the episodic conflict and misadventures. Smith was not in the un-aired pilot and neither was the robot. Of interesting note was that the plot point causing the Space Family Robinson to become "Lost in Space" was that it was a meteor storm in the un-aired pilot put the Jupiter Two off course. In the first aired episode, Smith's sabotage and unintended presence caused them to go off course so that they encountered the meteors, introducing an element of proximate causation as to Smith's culpability for the Robinson family's predicament. In the un-aired version, they were going at such a relatively slow speed that they wondered if they were on Mars, while in the first aired episode, just seconds of hyper-drive and they were lost, unknown light-years from Earth.

    Production

The first appearance of a space-faring Robinson family was in a comic book published by Gold Key Comics, The Space Family Robinson, who travelled about also lost in space aboard Space Station One in December 1962. The television show came three years later, and during its run, CBS and 20th Century Fox reached an agreement with Gold Key Comics that allowed the usage of the name 'Robinson' for the show. After that, the television series went ahead with stories separate from the comic book series. The television series is an adaptation of the Johann David Wyss novel The Swiss Family Robinson. The astronaut family of Dr. John Robinson, accompanied by an Air Force pilot and a robot, set out from an overpopulated Earth in the spaceship Jupiter 2 to visit a planet circling the star Alpha Centauri with hopes of colonizing it. Their mission in 1997 (the official launch date of the Jupiter 2 was October 16, 1997) is immediately sabotaged by Dr. Zachary Smith — an apparent agent for a foreign government — who slips aboard their spaceship and reprograms the robot to destroy the ship and crew. Smith is trapped aboard, saving himself by prematurely reviving the crew from suspended animation. They save the ship, but consequent damage leaves them lost in space. Eventually they crash on an alien world, later named by the Robinsons as Priplanis, where they spend the rest of the season and had to survive a host of adventures. Smith, whom Allen originally intended to write out, remains through the series as a source of comedic cowardice and villainy, exploiting the forgiving nature of the Robinsons. Smith was liked by the trusting Will Robinson, but he was disliked by both the Robot and the equally-suspicious Major Don West.

4 4 "There Were Giants in the Earth" October 6, 1965

The Robinsons begin to make themselves at home on the strange alien world, growing plants and herding local animals for food. After checking a meteorological station, the Professor learns that a severe cold front is coming which will drop the temperature to lethal levels. To make matters worse, the Professor and Major West are attacked by a giant cyclopean creature that lurks in the area. The family decides to abandon the Jupiter 2 and head south to a warmer climate, but Dr. Smith refuses to go with them. Journeying in the Chariot, the family seeks shelter from a freak lightning storm inside a cave. There they find ruins of a past civilization in which to explore.

Note: Much of this episode again reuses footage from the original pilot "No Place to Hide".

1978: Operation Mind Control by Walter Bowart

The book is out of print, but a “Researchers Edition“ (2nd ed. 1994) is online. Walter Bowart was the first author to argue that the U.S. government conducted covert psychological experiments on unwitting Americans; he did so armed with key documents he had obtained under FOIA.

Bowart coined the name “Cryptocracy” a compound of “crypto”, meaning “secret,” and “cracy,” meaning “rule, government, governing body.”

“The ‘cryptocracy’ then is the secret government whose identity and whereabouts have slowly and reluctantly been hinted at by the Congress through its investigations into Watergate, the CIA, and the rest of the intelligence community. . . The cryptocracy invades the privacy of citizens and corporations. It meddles, often violently, in the internal politics of foreign countries, and has hired, trained, and equipped mind-controlled assassins for the murder of heads of state. . . . The story within the story, I discovered, is an astonishing one of a psychological war waged by the U.S. cryptocracy against the American people.”

This Cryptocracy, he argues, has waged a psychological war against the American people, by invading the privacy of citizens and corporations, and meddling, often violently, in the internal politics of foreign nations using trained mind-controlled assassins for the murder of heads of state. Bowart notes that the CIA is near the top of the pyramid, but it is not alone.

Richard Condon, author of the (fictional) Manchurian Candidate (1959) wrote the forward to Bowart’s book in 1977:

“. . .the American secret police has endowed hundreds of scientist at American universities to unravel methods for fracturing American minds. . .this research in so many great halls of learning has exceeded a cost of untold secret millions of dollars. . .indicates that this Grockian entertainment being produced by our secret police is a matter of ambitious policy rather than the happenchance of cloak-and-dagger adventure.”

“In this book W.H. Bowart has proven each step of this official, terminal, government anarchy even though that appears to be a contradiction in terms. To alter and control human minds is the ultimate anarchy. What is offered by official apologists as a tribute to the deeds of daring-do by romantic spies are acts of hatred and sadism against all people in an insane and degraded determination to extirpate conscience from society.”

“. . . the astonishing information published in this seminal work of investigative reporting, concerning avenues taken to decision and execution by our secret police to fracture or dissolve human minds, then to operate a Yo-Yo, for purposes of counter-intelligence military ‘efficiency,’ and the destruction of democratic institutions, was drawn directly from federal records and from official laboratory archives of the highest educational purpose — as well as from the reviving memories of those who had already undergone the dehumanizing process.”

“The prostitution of the mind by our secret police preceded the murder of the mind. The advanced techniques now available to ‘magnetic and attractive’ political personalities, it was necessary to turn out the laboratories of science as a pimp turns out his heartless whores upon the winter streets; our hallowed educators, army and navy and air force commanders and personnel, the beloved medical profession, august and inspiring temples of the law, our esteemed statesmen, and all Americans living and dead. Each one of those groups is involved in this dismembering of the mind.”

“‘Brainwashing’ per se is no news to any of us. Controlled assassins are not known to us only through fiction. Advertising assaults on behalf of poisonous materials to induce us successfully to buy and consume are early on bastions of mind control.”

“No one — not anyone — needs theologians to answer the question: ‘Where does the soul live?’ We know the soul lives in the mind because the soul is the mind of intent, of hope, of purpose, of achievement by the spirit beyond achievement by physical action.”

“W.H. Bowart’s book is also a freezing vision of the mutations of the aspirations of science. Scientists, educators, and their leaders, The Great Men, Having stumbled upon the possibility of controlling the human mind might well have withheld this knowledge from the secret police and brought it forward for all to share, would you not say? If the means are at hand actually to enter and control the mind — not through the far-off smoke signals of psychiatry and psychoanalysis — can we conceive of what might be found in terms of medical triumphs, the conquest of pain and of group hatreds, and mental energy released by unraveling the Garden knots of mental perplexity. . .

“The question the book puts is this: do you wish this immeasurably important technique to remain as a weapon to be used against you and your children by what Bowart calls the Cryptocracy, or do you wish to use it as a universal key to unlock a thousand new chances that your children will not be murdered in future wars? Today our secret police and our military establishment have demonstrated [ . . .] the powers to create assassins out of our children. The expansion of these powers, which are able to turn young men and women into murderous criminals at will, goes on unchecked by the oft-called ‘investigative’ press, by ‘morals at the bar, in the pulpits, in high government, and on campuses.

“Zombie is a quaint, old- fashioned folklore word which [. . .] becomes obscene when our children’s minds are being controlled by any one of dozens of federal secret police agencies. The murders of a few hundred humans by a few hundred other humans is commonplace enough but, for the flavor of horror and terror, of endless nightmare rampant upon a landscape of what was once American democracy, consider this expansion of the Brzezinski epigraph which cannot be repeated often enough: ‘In the technetronic society the trend would seem to be toward the aggregation of the individual support of millions of uncoordinated citizens, easily within the reach of magnetic and attractive personalities, effectively exploiting the latest communications techniques to manipulate emotion and control reason.’”

Walter Bowart calls attention to the fact that the scientific reports, CIA documents, and histories of CIA’s mind control projects, ignore almost entirely the human factor. “There is no written record of the mental anguish, the torture to the soul that comes from loss of memory and the resulting identity crisis. That mental anguish is the story of mind control.” In his book, Bowart tells the stories told by the “failures” of Operation Mind Control — “failures because the victims remember something; for where mind control is successful there is no memory left.”

To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he’s doing is good… Ideology – that is what gives devil doing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others’ eyes, so that he won’t hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors…

At 10 p.m. on February 13-14, 1945, the Master Bomber broadcast the cryptic order: 'Controller to Plate-Rack Force: Come in and bomb glow of red T.I.s as planned.' The ill-famed R.A.F. attack on Dresden had begun. The target city was among Germany's largest, but had little military or industrial value. It was a center for the evacuation of wounded servicemen, and schools, restaurants, and public buildings had been converted into hospitals.

The authorities expected that this, a city often compared with Florence for its graceful Baroque style, would be spared. By 1945 the legend was deeply entrenched that Dresden would never be bombed. It was not to be. In February 1945 with the war's political and military directors meeting at Yalta, Mr Winston Churchill urgently needed some display of his offensive strength and of his willingness to assist the Russians in their drive westwards. Dresden just seven miles behind the eastern Front, became the victim of Mr Churchill's desire for a spectacular 'shattering blow'. As things turned out this, the most crushing air-raid of the war, was not delivered until the Yalta conference ended.

The city was undefended - even the Luftwaffe night fighter force was grounded. There were no proper air raid shelters. Dresden was housing hundreds of thousands of refugees from Silesia, East Prussia, and western Germany, in addition to its own population of 630,000 Up to a hundred thousand people, perhaps more, were killed in two or three hours, burned alive, that night. Yet until the first edition of this book appeared in 1963 the raid scarcely figured in the Allied war histories. A veil had been drawn across this tragedy.

Stung by foreign revulsion at this new St Valentine's Day massacre, the British prime minister - who had ordered it - penned an angry minute to his Chief of Staff, even before the war ended, rasping that 'the destruction of Dresden remains a serious query against the conduct of allied bombing'. It is from this remarkably forgetful minute that the sub-title of this documentary account is taken. For the first time the full story, omitting nothing, of the history.

    From The Anglo-American Establishment

"One wintry afternoon in 1891, three men were engaged in earnest conversation in London. From that conversation were to flow consequences of the greatest importance to the British Empire and to the world as a whole. For these men were organizing a secret society that was, for more than 50 years, to be one of the most important forces in the formulation and execution of British imperial and foreign policy.

The three men thus engaged were already well known in England. The leader was Cecil Rhodes, fabulously wealthy empire builder and the most important person in South Africa. The second was William T. Stead, the most famous, and probably also the most sensational, journalist of the day. The third was Reginald Baliol Brett, later known as Lord Esher, friend and confidant of Queen Victoria, and later to be the most influential adviser of King Edward VII and King George V."

I Spy is an American television secret-agent buddy adventure series. It ran for three seasons on NBC from 1965 to 1968 and teamed US intelligence agents Kelly Robinson (Robert Culp) and Alexander "Scotty" Scott (Bill Cosby), traveling under cover as international "tennis bums". Robinson poses as an amateur with Scott as his trainer, playing against wealthy opponents in return for food and lodging. Their work involved chasing villains, spies, and beautiful women.

    Characters and settings

I Spy broke ground in that it was the first American television drama to feature a black actor (Cosby) in a lead role. Originally an older actor was slated to play a fatherly mentor to Culp's character. After seeing Cosby performing stand-up comedy on a talk-show, Sheldon Leonard decided to take a chance on hiring him to play opposite Culp. The concept was changed from a mentor-protégé relationship to same-age partners who were equals. It was also notable that Cosby's race was never an issue in any of the stories. Nor was his character in any way subservient to Culp's, with the exception that Culp's "Kelly Robinson" was a more experienced agent. (Culp revealed in his audio commentary on the DVD release that he and Cosby agreed early on that "Our statement is a non-statement" regarding race, and the subject was never discussed again.) As a strait-laced Rhodes Scholar fluent in many languages, Cosby's "Scotty" was really the brains of the team. His partner was the athlete and playboy who lived by his wits.

I Spy was a trailblazer in its use of exotic international locations in an attempt to emulate the James Bond film series. This was unique for a television show, especially since the series actually filmed its lead actors at locations ranging from Spain to Japan, rather than relying on stock footage. (Compare with the recent series, Alias, which also utilized worldwide settings but rarely filmed outside the Los Angeles region, and I Spy's contemporaries Mission: Impossible & The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (Also on NBC), which were completely filmed on the Desilu and MGM back lots.) Each season the producers would select four or five scenic locations around the world and create stories that took advantage of the local attractions. Episodes were filmed in Athens, Rome, Florence, Madrid, Venice, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Acapulco, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Morocco.

The success of the show is attributed to the chemistry between Culp and Cosby. Fans tuned in more for their hip banter than for the espionage stories, making I Spy a leader in the buddy genre. The two actors quickly developed a close friendship that mirrored their on-screen characters, a friendship that would last until Culp's death in 2010. The show also coined unique phrases that, briefly, became catchphrases, such as "wonderfulness". Wonderfulness was used as the title of one of Cosby's albums of stand-up comedy released concurrently with the series. Cosby also occasionally slipped in bits of his comic routines during his improvised badinage with Culp. (In one episode Scott, being interrogated under the influence of drugs, says his name is Fat Albert.) Many details of Cosby's life were also written into his character. Scott does not drink or smoke—while Kelly Robinson does both. There are frequent references to Scott's childhood in Philadelphia and attending Temple University (Cosby is sometimes seen wearing his own Temple sweatshirt), and in the "Cops and Robbers" episode, Scotty returns home to Philadelphia to revisit his old neighborhood.

It's All Done with Mirrors Episode aired 13 April 1966

Sinister Soviet scientist Dr. Karolyi kidnaps Kelly and brainwashes him into believing Scott is a traitor who must be killed.

Excerpt from Assassination of Lincoln: A History of the Great Conspiracy; Trial of the Conspirators by a Military Commission, and a Review of the Trial of John H. Surratt

IT is now more than twenty-seven years since the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, - an event of the greatest importance at the time, not only to the people of the United States, but to the civilized world. The trial of the conspirators by a military commission created the greatest possible interest; and the proceedings and testimony were published from day to day by all of the great newspapers oi the country, and read with avidity. The judgment of those who carefully studied the testimony at the time was formed upon a competent knowledge of the facts.

And yet, even then, the fate of the prisoners on trial before the Commission, to be found innocent or guilty according to the evidence, constituted the great point of interest, and thus tended to divert attention from the evidence against the other parties charged not only with being co-conspirators, but as being the instigators of the plot.

Since that time a new generation has come on to the stage of action, and as the official report of the trial by Ben Pittman, published at the time, is in the hands of but comparatively few people, a concise history of this great event, in popular form, but founded on the evidence, seemed to the writer to be due and called for at the present time.

I found this very interesting old TV show. I picked this episode at random. Soldiers across Europe looked into the sky and saw what they thought was a flare. It was a light apparition. They lost the will to fight. They entered a state of mind in a past Utopia. The point is it was a true story that found 1,000 soldiers experience the same thing. It was printed in the Rosicrucian magazine Rays From the Rose Cross in November 1915. They say Constantine saw a vision that led him to battle. Perhaps it was meant the other way.

Skolnick was a court reformer, and from 1969 to 1993 alone, twenty judges and over forty attorneys went behind bars as a result of Skolnick's public exposure of their crimes. In 1963 he founded the Citizen's Committee to Clean Up the Courts, a public interest group researching and disclosing certain instances of judicial bribery and political murders. From 1995 on, he was producer/moderator of "BROADSIDES," a one-hour weekly taped public access Chicago Cable TV Show that reached an audience of 400,000 viewers. Judges on the take, some of them termed "banksters" or "banker-judges," drew the attention not only of Skolnick's seasoned Jewish humor but also of his relentless and feared public exposure mechanisms. Since 2003, the learned Skolnick found a home for the last years of his investigative reporting in the Toronto-based internet talk radio and magazine, http: //www.cloakanddagger.de (http: //www.cloakanddagger.ca). He also contributed to http: //www.rense.com and his reports appeared on many other websites. Together with Cloak and Dagger host Lenny Bloom, Skolnick further penned the Middle Finger News series. On his website, Skolnick caricatured himself as Sherlock Holmes peering through his magnifying glass. This symbol has now been transported to the covers of Dandelion's latest compilation of his writings, where it will continue to serve as a reminder of a man who consistently refused to be politically correct even when he knew the consequences of not toeing the party line, and who worked meticulously and indefatigably for the cause of justice.

Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong is a 1995 book by James W. Loewen, a sociologist. It critically examines twelve popular American high school history textbooks and concludes that the textbook authors propagate false, Eurocentric and mythologized views of American history. In addition to his critique of the dominant historical themes presented in high school textbooks, Loewen presents themes that he says are ignored by traditional history textbooks.

    Themes

In Lies My Teacher Told Me, Loewen criticizes modern American high school history textbooks for containing incorrect information about people and events such as Christopher Columbus, the lies and inaccuracies in the history books regarding the dealings between the Europeans and the Native Americans, and their often deceptive and inaccurate teachings told about America's commerce in slavery. He further criticizes the texts for a tendency to avoid controversy and for their "bland" and simplistic style. He proposes that when American history textbooks elevate American historical figures to the status of heroes, they unintentionally give students the impression that these figures are superhumans who live in the irretrievable past. In other words, the history-as-myth method teaches students that America's greatest days have already passed. Loewen asserts that the muting of past clashes and tragedies makes history boring to students, especially groups excluded from the positive histories.
