This film documents the largest expedition ever undertaken to explore Antarctica. The expedition, code named "Operation High Jump," was made by the U.S. Navy and involved 13 ships (including one submarine), 23 aircraft, and about 4700 men.

The film was shot by photographers from all branches of the U.S. military. One purpose of the expedition was to explore and photograph several thousand square miles of inland and coastal areas that had not been previously mapped.

Operation Highjump has become a topic among some UFO researchers, who claim it was a covert United States military operation to conquer alleged secret underground Nazi facilities in Antarctica and capture the German Vril flying discs, or Thule mercury-powered spaceship prototypes. -----

The quality of the movie reflects its age, but it's not too bad.

You have to wonder why such a huge undertaking was made right after WW2 and supposedly for the sole purposes of mapping the antarctic and to evaluate how troops could perform in arctic conditions.

    WHOLE FILM:

Excerpts from the movie "The Secret Land"

In 1947 Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal sent a naval task force to Antarctic including Admiral Nimitz, Admiral Krusen and Admiral Byrd, called "Operation Highjump".

It was touted to be an expedition to find "coal deposits" and other valuable resources, but in actuality they were trying to find the underground base of the nazis in Neuschwabenlandt. The nazis had done a very detailed study of Antarctica and were alleged to have built an underground base there. In this regard however, the aryans have had an underground habitation in Antarctic for more than a million years.

The task force of OVER 40 SHIPS, included the flagship "Mount Olympus", the aircraft carrier "Philipine Sea", the seaplane tender "Pine Sea", the submarine "Senate", the destroyer "Bronson", the ice breaker "Northwind", and other tanker and supply ships.

An armed contingent of 1400 sailors, and three dog sled teams were also on board.

The expedition was filmed by the Navy and brought to Hollywood to be made into a commercial film called "The Secret Land". It was narrated by Hollywood actor Robert Montgomery (Naval reserve Officer) .

There were three divisions of Operation High Jump: one land group with tractors, explosives, and plenty of equipment to refurbish "Little America", and make an airstrip to land the six R-4D’s (DC-3’s), and two seaplane groups.

The R4-D’s were fitted with jet-assist takeoff bottles (JATO) in order to takeoff from the short runway of the aircraft carrier "Philipine Sea".

They also were fitted with large skis for landing on the ice field prepared for them. The skis were specially fitted at three inches above the surface of the carrier deck. When landing on the ice at "Little America" the three inches of tire in contact with the snow and ice provided just enough and not too much drag for a smooth landing.

Admiral Byrd’s team of six R4-D’s were fitted with the super secret "Trimetricon" spy cameras and each plane was trailing a magnetometer.

They flew over as much of the continent as they could in the short three month "summer" period, mapping and recording magnetic data. Magnetometers show anomalies in the Earth’s magnetism, i.e. if there is a "hollow" place under the surface ice or ground, it will show up on the meter.

On the last of many "mapping" flights where all six planes went out, each on certain pre-ordained paths to film and "measure" with magnetometers, Admiral Byrd’s plane returned THREE HOURS LATE.

It was stated that he had "lost an engine" and has had to throw everything overboard except the films themselves and the results of magnetometer readings in order to maintain altitude long enough to return to Little America. This is most certainly the time when he met with representatives of the aryans and a contingent of nazis.

The task force came steaming back with their data which then became classified "top secret". Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal retired and started to "talk". He was put in Bethesda Naval Hospital psychiatric ward where he was prevented from seeing or talking to anyone, including his wife. After a short while he was thrown out the window while trying to hang himself with a bedsheet. It was ruled a suicide, case closed.

He was telling people about the underground aryan base.

THERE ARE CLAIMS RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS HAVE GONE MISSING AT VOSTOK STATION. THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT A CATACLYSM THERE A WHILE BACK CALLED VOSTOK STATION. AL GORE IS IN ANTARCTICA. THIS IS A LITTLE BACKGROUND INFORMATION.

In 1957 the Russians established a remote base in Antarctica -- the Vostok station. It soon became a byword for hardship -- dependent on an epic annual 1000km tractor journey from the coast for its supplies. The coldest temperature ever found on Earth (-89°C) was recorded here on the 21st July 1983. It's an unlikely setting for a lake of liquid water. But in the 1970's a British team used airborne radar to see beneath the ice, mapping the mountainous land buried by the Antarctic ice sheet. Flying near the Vostok base their radar trace suddenly went flat. They guessed that the flat trace could only be from water. It was the first evidence that the ice could be hiding a great secret.

But 20 years passed before their suspicions were confirmed, when satellites finally revealed that there was an enormous lake under the Vostok base. It is one of the largest lakes in the world -- at 10,000 square km it's about the extent of Lake Ontario, but about twice as deep (500m in places). The theory was that it could only exist because the ice acts like a giant insulating blanket, trapping enough of the earth's heat to melt the very bottom of the ice sheet.

The Day of the Jackal is a 1973 Anglo-French film, set in August 1963 and based on the novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth. Directed by Fred Zinnemann, it stars Edward Fox as the assassin known only as "the Jackal" who is hired to assassinate Charles de Gaulle.

    https://ymovies.tv/film/the-day-of-the-jackal-5355/

The film opens with the recreation of an actual event, the assassination attempt on the President of France, Charles de Gaulle, on 22 August 1962, by the militant French underground organisation OAS in anger over the French government's decision to give independence to Algeria. The group, led by Jean Bastien-Thiry, raked de Gaulle's car, an unarmored Citroën DS, with machine gun fire in the Paris suburb of Petit-Clamart, but the entire entourage escaped without injury. Within six months, Bastien-Thiry and several other members of the plot were caught and executed.

The remaining OAS leadership decides to make another attempt, and hires a professional assassin who chooses the code name The Jackal (Edward Fox). He demands half a million US dollars for his services, so to raise the Jackal's fee, OAS members rob several banks. Meanwhile, the Jackal commissions a rifle disguised as a crutch and fake identity papers. (Notably, he spares the reliable gunsmith but murders the forger who tries to blackmail him.) In Paris, he sneaks an impression of the key to a flat that overlooks a large square (where de Gaulle will make an appearance on Liberation Day).

The French Service d'Action Civique (referred to throughout as the Action Service) identify and kidnap the OAS chief clerk, Adjutant Viktor Wolenski (Jean Martin) in Italy. They use torture to extract some elements of the plot, including the word "Jackal", before Wolenski dies.

Interior Minister (Alan Badel) convenes a secret cabinet. The police commissioner recommends the brilliant detective deputy commissioner Claude Lebel (Michael Lonsdale). He will have any resources he needs but must avoid publicity. One of the cabinet members, named St. Clair, unsuspectingly discloses the government's knowledge of the plot to his new mistress (Olga Georges-Picot), an OAS plant who immediately passes this information on to her contact.

Lebel uses an old boy network of police agencies in other countries to determine that suspect "Charles Calthrop" may be traveling under the name "Paul Oliver Duggan" and that Duggan has entered France.

The Jackal decides to carry on with his plan despite the fact that his code name is known. He meets and seduces Colette de Montpellier (Delphine Seyrig) in a Grasse hotel. Slipping away before Lebel arrives, he steals a Peugeot 404 that collided with his Alfa Romeo Giulietta and drives it to Madame de Montpellier's estate. After sleeping with her again and discovering that the police had talked to her, he strangles her. The Jackal then assumes a new identity as a bespectacled Dane, using a stolen passport. He drives Madame de Montpellier's Renault Caravelle to a station and catches a train for Paris.

Once the lady's servants discover her corpse and her car is recovered at the train station, Lebel is able to make an open manhunt for a murderer. But the Jackal makes it to Paris, slips into a cab and, avoiding hotels now, goes to a bathhouse, where he allows himself to be picked up by a man and taken to the man's flat.

At a meeting with the assembled cabinet, Lebel plays the tape of a phone call made from the house of one of the cabinet members. The cabinet hears St. Clair's mistress passing along information about the manhunt to her OAS contact. St. Clair acknowledges that the call was made from his house and leaves in disgrace. Another cabinet member asks Lebel how he knew which phone to tap, to which he replies that he didn't, so he tapped them all.

Lebel further reveals that the Jackal will most likely attempt to shoot de Gaulle in three days, when the president will make several appearances for Liberation Day.

Meanwhile, the Jackal kills the man who picked him up at the bathhouse after a television news flash reveals him to be wanted for murder.

On Liberation Day, the Jackal, disguised as an elderly veteran amputee, shows his forged papers and is allowed through to enter the apartment building he had cased earlier. He takes up a position at the window of the upper apartment. De Gaulle enters the square to present medals to veterans of the Resistance.

Lebel meets the policeman who met the disguised Jackal and becomes alarmed. As de Gaulle presents the first medal, the Jackal shoots but the bullet misses him because at that moment the president leans over to kiss the recipient on the cheek. Lebel and the policeman burst in to the room, the Jackal turns and shoots the policeman, Lebel uses the policeman's MAT-49 submachine gun to kill the Jackal as he tries to re-load his rifle.

Back in Britain, the real ? and completely unrelated to the case ? Charles Calthrop (Edward Hardwicke) walks in on the police in his flat. As the Jackal's coffin is lowered into a grave, the authorities wonder, "But if the Jackal wasn't Calthrop, then who the hell was he?"

    https://archive.org/details/TheBrotherhoodOfTheBell

    http://veehd.com/video/4528776_The-Brotherhood-of-the-Bell-1970-nYx64

The Brotherhood of the Bell is a 1970 made-for-television movie produced by Cinema Center 100 Productions and starring Glenn Ford. The director Paul Wendkos was nominated in 1971 by the Directors Guild of America for "outstanding directorial achievement in television." David Karp wrote the screenplay based on his novel that had been previously filmed as a Studio One episode in 1958.

The film depicts a successful economics professor, Dr. Andrew Patterson, who discovers that an elite fraternity he joined as an undergraduate is really a callous banking and business cabal that obtains wealth and power for its members through nefarious practices.

Twenty-two years after his initiation into a secret society known as the "Brotherhood of the Bell" or "the Bell", Dr. Andrew (Andy) Patterson (Glenn Ford) is requested to be the "senior" of a new initiate, Phillip Everest Dunning (Robert Pine). The initiation takes place in "the secret chamber of the bell" in the Beta Epsilon Lambda fraternity house of St. George College in San Francisco at sunrise. Patterson is coldly greeted by the house proctor Weber, who directs him to the library where he meets his "senior" Chad Harmon (Dean Jagger) of San Francisco, a member for forty years. The initiation takes place before a large bell in the center of a compass rose set into the floor. Phillip Dunning had been studying the articles and letters of the Brotherhood since midnight. He is then instructed by Harmon to give them to him to be destroyed. He is sworn to secrecy, and he takes his appropriate place at the east compass point with Harmon at the south point, Patterson at the west point, and Weber at the north point. He is reminded that he will be given an assignment or "due bill" at some indeterminate time in the future, and instructed that he is obliged to carry it out without question. The four men recite the oath of loyalty and secrecy and end by tolling the bell.

As they leave the fraternity house Chad Harmon gives Patterson a business card with an address written on it, telling him to stop by there before he takes the return flight to Los Angeles. In a parting conversation with his new junior Phillip Dunning, he makes the point of telling him that they are not only part of the establishment but "the" establishment.

Patterson arrives at the address on the business card, a mansion that appears unoccupied – the furniture is covered with drop cloths to protect against dust. A tall gray-haired man asks him for the card, and hands him two envelopes. A legal envelope contains his assignment, and a large manila envelope contains materials that assist in carrying out the assignment. Patterson is told to open them one hour after leaving the mansion.

Chad Harmon is being seated for luncheon when Patterson is ushered in. When the two of them are alone, Patterson tells Harmon his assignment: to ensure that a colleague at his institute, Dr. Constantine Horvathy (Eduard Franz), declines a deanship of the College of Linguistics in the eastern United States. The manila envelope contains photostatted dossiers of men and women in a Communist nation who helped Horvathy to defect to the West. Patterson is instructed to send the dossiers to the embassy of that nation if Horvathy refuses to comply.

Horvathy is a dear friend of Patterson and his wife, and Patterson is reticent to carry out the assignment. Harmon tries to calm Patterson by advising him to appeal to Horvathy on a personal level, which might eliminate the need for blackmail. Patterson agrees, returns to Los Angeles and meets Dr. Horvathy just before an evening scholarly presentation.

Dr. Horvathy does not agree to comply with Patterson's request, and demands reasons why he should do so. Patterson hands him the dossiers, which terrify Horvathy. Later that evening, Horvathy commits suicide.

Patterson and his wife, Vivian (Rosemary Forsyth), are awakened by the police. Patterson was the last person to see Horvathy alive, and the police want to question him. When the police leave, Patterson tells his wife the real reason Horvathy committed suicide. Vivian suggests that Patterson see her father, Harry Masters (Maurice Evans), and ask his advice.

Masters and Patterson meet with Thaddeus Burns, whom Masters says is an agent of the Federal Security Services (the film's fictional version of the FBI). They meet in what Burns calls a "cover office". Burns persuades Patterson to surrender materials related to the Horvathy incident, and Patterson complies. When he hears nothing more after several days, Patterson returns to the office of the Federal Security Services. Agent Shepherd (Dabney Coleman) tells Patterson that there is no agent "Thaddeus Burns", and that there is no record of Patterson's report to the FSS with information on the Brotherhood of the Bell. Shepherd questions Harry Masters, but Masters denies having taken Patterson to see Burns, and tells him that Patterson is emotionally disturbed and requires psychiatric help.

When Patterson returns to Harry Masters' home, he finds Masters in his study with a psychiatrist. Patterson angrily accuses Masters of lying. Patterson later learns that his entire department at the college will be dissolved due to a sudden cancellation of grant support. Patterson is also blacklisted so that he cannot attain another position elsewhere as a professor. The strain of these events takes a toll, and Vivian leaves him. Patterson realizes that everything he has had – career, success, marriage – for the past 22 years had been given to him because he was a member of the Brotherhood.

Patterson holds a press conference in which he discloses the existence of the Brotherhood of the Bell, and reveals his assignment that led to Horvathy's death. Chad Harmon publicly denies his claims, and the district attorney refuses to investigate due to lack of credible evidence.

Patterson's father (Will Geer), a road construction contractor, is ruined by a sudden audit of his company's books. The elder Patterson suffers a stroke in a confrontation with Harry Masters, and dies shortly thereafter.

Patterson becomes a crusader to expose and destroy the Brotherhood of the Bell. He appears on a local television talk show whose host (William Conrad) conducts an on-air forum. Since Patterson alleges a conspiracy, two conspiracy theorists in the forum embellish Patterson's claims with paranoid nonsense. The show host humiliates Patterson on the air by denouncing him as part of a lunatic fringe. Patterson attacks the host physically and is led off to jail.

Help comes from an unexpected quarter when his friend Dr. Fielder bails him out of jail and allows him to stay at his home. Fielder encourages Patterson to find another brother of the Bell to come forward with him. Patterson can only think of his own junior, Phillip Dunning. He flies to San Francisco and confronts Dunning in his dorm room early in the morning. Feeling he has failed to convince Dunning, he dejectedly returns to the airport. As he walks down a deserted corridor, he hears footsteps running towards him. It is Dunning, who is willing to return to Los Angeles with Patterson to help him expose the Brotherhood.
