There is a report out about the 19 Things That The Talking Heads On Television Are Being Strangely Silent About. Number two on the list is of course Fukushima. Of course we'd hate to poo poo on sports and entertainment, but the fuel pool of Reactor Number 4 at the Fukushima Number 1 Nuclear Power Plant may very well be doomed to collapse. If it does, then 460 tons of nuclear fuel will overheat and explode in a massive nuclear fire. The resulting fallout cloud will envelope Japan and necessitate the evacuation of 40 million people. In a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon former Japanese Ambassador Mitsuhei Murata said,

It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on NO.4 reactor. This is confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Dr. Fumiaki Koide.

There is no beating around the bush with that analysis. In fact neighbouring pools are also at risk too. In kamikaze (divine wind) tradition we will see more than suicide pilots crossing the skies bringing death and destruction. The suicide may very well be that of the human race. The release will be in the range of 393 million curies of radiation. That is 200 times more than the Chernobyl release. Even from last year's release radioactive clouds have crossed the Pacific and been injested by kelp. Of course our leaders have taken a very firm position on these matters.

The Fuel Pools of Fukushima: THE GREATEST SHORT-TERM THREAT TO HUMANITY is a more detailed report on the scope of the crisis. In the event of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake or some other event, the pool wall will collapse draining the pool. The resultant fire and explosion will release horrendous fallout clouds. There is no surviving containment structure.

A steel shell is to be built around the above structure. Portions of it will have to be demolished. This will be a gigantic task to do this work in a highly radioactive environment.
